OFFGRID SYSTEM COMPONENTS

The basic components that make up an off-grid system are the Inverter; Solar Panels and the storage batteries.  If the system is DC coupled there is also a charge-controller or MPPT.

At Smartgrid we only choose top quality components for our customers.  Over ten years of experience has taught us that putting in top quality components ensures that we don't need to return unnecessarily due to defective products.  For proper off-grid systems the big two, Selectronic and Victron, are hard to beat although Deye has started to make a mark since it teamed up with Redearth.  All of these products work on a 48V battery system which allows flexibility in choosing batteries.

SOLAR PANELS

Our customers tell us that solar panels are difficult to choose as all panel manufacturers claim that their product is the best.  The technology is constantly evolving and improvements in design and construction occur almost daily.  At Smartgrid we choose Tier 1 manufacturers with a good history in the business.  Recently the trend has been from P type to N type panels and from Poly to Mono.  If this is all too confusing click this link for a simple explanation on the differences and the pros v cons.

LifePo4 is generally considered to be the best overall chemistry for modern off-grid systems.  The main reasons for this are the safety, value and longevity.  Almost all of the major manufacturers offer a warranty of ten years on their products if installed by a licenced, qualified installer and also if installed with a compatible inverter.  To understand more on the reasons to choose LifePo4 click on this link.
